For just about any activity out there, you can practically guarantee there is some sort of specific footwear designed to help you improve performance in said activity. The Highland Games is no different. In fact, it may be so to an even greater degree, as a certain shoe might be better or worse depending on which of the 9 events you may be focusing on.
John is a man with many shoes, and he has one (to a certain extent) for each every event of the Highland Games. It might seem a bit excessive, but when you’re trying to break world records (not just your own) any little extra thing you can do to give yourself another edge up is worthwhile to do.
